(1947-2023)
David Eugene Whitaker, age 76, passed away the morning of Thursday, September 28, 2023, after a lengthy battle with dementia.
A lifelong resident of Jonesborough, David was born to Sarah Kate and Harold Whitaker on the 22nd of June, 1947. He attended Jonesborough Schools, where he excelled in sports, especially basketball. David studied business at ETSU, which led to a career as a banker and loan officer.
David had a passion for sports cars, particularly Porsches, which he rebuilt and raced with the Porsche Club of America throughout the southeast region.
In his later years, he tended to goats and chickens on his small farm in Jonesborough and sold eggs at the local Farmers' Market.
In death, he was preceded by his parents Sarah Kate and Harold, his first wife Sharron Byrd Whitaker, second wife Kay Meyers Whitaker, and sister, Mari Jo Whitaker. He is survived by daughter Leigh Ann Whitaker, brother Jack Whitaker, and sister-in-law Sandy (Hyatt).
