David Lynn Story, December 12, 2024
David Story passed away, in the presence of his family at his home at 707 Meadow Lane, Kingsport, on December 12, 2024, after a 3 year illness. David was born on November 30, 1948, in Johnson City, to Margaret Harrison Story and Harry C. "Slick" Story, both of whom preceded him in death.
David was a 1966 graduate of Science Hill High School and remained a loyal Topper, retaining the friends he made at SHHS, for the rest of his life. He was also a lifelong fan of the Tennessee Vols and a lover of the game of golf. He majored in business at Tennessee Tech University and worked in several industries during his lifetime, eventually retiring from the insurance business. He was a Shriner, a member and past master of Johnson City Masonic Lodge #486, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Colonial Heights.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Cox Story, originally of Gray, children Jason Wamsley (Tiffany) of Maryville, Beth Wamsley of Cleveland, TN, David Story Jr. (Beth) of Gray, and one grandson, Noah Story, age 3 months of Gray, whom he considered himself blessed to have been able to meet. He is also survived by brothers Michael Story of Jonesboro, Pat Story (Dawn) of Johnson City, Gary Story of Johnson City, and sister, Jennifer Story (David Helms) of Silver Spring, MD.
The family is especially grateful to Lindsey Williams and Carrigan Honaker of Amedysis Hospice for their kindness during David's final weeks and to Charlie Hilton and Rebecca Hilton for their care during his final days.
The immediate family will hold a committal service. Those wishing to remember David are asked to contribute to the American Cancer Society or Shriner's Hospital for Children.

Dave & I talked each other into going out for football in the 5th grade at Notthside. We promised each other we would be Toppers in high school. I think we were the only ones to make it off that 5th grade team. We have been friends for years. Prayers to all family.

David was little older than me, but got to know him in high school. He was tough, rugged football player, with wonderful sense of humor. Got to see him a few times in the past 6-7 years, and enjoyed him always. He was an inspiration to me and all that knew him. My condolences to the family. I will always remember the good times that I had with Mike, Pat, David and Gary growing up as next door neighbors on Brown's Mill Road in Johnson City. We also shared good times at Science Hill High School.

I got to know David when he was at Duke hospital awaiting his heart transplant. Even then he was a fun guy with a terrific sense of humor. Since then we have met at UT games in Koxville and in Columbia when playing the Gamecocks. Alot of good times. He is already missed.

Went to grade school through graduation from Science Hill with David. I most remember going to a day movie at Majestic Theater in the 7th grade. He always had a smile on his face. Prayers for his family! Helen King Nicodemus
