David Odum Obituary

David Landon Odum

October 6, 2024

JOHNSON CITY, TN - I was also called Cotton/Uncle Cotton by my family and Big O by my students at Holston Valley Middle School. If you're reading this, you must know that I passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024 in Johnson City, TN. I was preceded in death by my parents David "Schoon" and Louise Odum. Brothers, Jack Odum of Dayton Ohio, Ron Odum of Bluff City, Robert "Bob" Odum and Don "Fuzz" Odum both of Bristol Virginia. Nephew, Dennis Odum of Bristol and Sisters-in-law. Helen Williams and Freda Sexton Odum. Survivors include my best friend, brother and partner Shawn Asbury of Johnson City.

Nieces and nephews are as follows Donna Odum Schiano, Jackie Odum McCleod, Kim Odum Mays (Bobby), Toni Odum Faulkner (Steve), Karla Odum, Pam Odum Puryear (Mark), Jan Odum Widener (Randall), Sherry Odum Watson (Todd), Brett Odum (Freddi), Brad Odum (Marcie), and Matthew Odum. Some of you I got to know better than others simply due to age and logistics but I always cared so much for each of you. Thank you for being my brothers and sisters and those that allowed me to be their favorite Uncle even though at times I had to remind you. A little humor. I appreciate that title.

Sisters-in-law Sara Carter Odum (Don), Evelyn Edwards (Ron), Marie Odum (Ron), and Linda Odum (Jack). I always enjoyed our company whenever you were around for any occasion. You ladies were always so special to me and it was so nice having some sisters along with my four brothers.

And to all my many students from Holston Valley Middle School, you were a very special part of my life. I learned a great deal from you and hope you did from me as well. I was honored to be a part of your lives and the Holston Valley community. Thank you.

And to my many friends and acquaintances, I think you know who you are without mentioning names. Thank you for your friendship and tolerating my adventurous spirit. Ken, you must realize....it was never boring.

A soulmate is someone that comes into your life to teach you, enrich and push you, transcend you to a higher state of being and consciousness. A partner is a companion that you trust and depend on throughout it all. Thank you Shawn.

Dear God, thank you for my life and the many conversations we have had and to borrow a line from The Book Of Common Prayer, please forgive me of the things I have done and those I have left undone. HALLELUJAH

So so sorry
My life was brightened by your light.
I read the obituary and was in shock I know you´re at peace. Shawn I miss seeing you all. Life takes us on a journey. I remember when you took your trip to the Greek islands. I actually have made that an item on my bucket list. Your vivid discription had painted my mind. Hugs. Love prayers for you. I know David will be missed. I had you two on my mind last week. Wondering. God wrap his arms around you and David´s family
