JOHNSON CITY - David Franklin Odom, 84, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023, in his hometown of Johnson City.
David was born on July 14, 1939, in Johnson City. He served under the Federal Bureau of Investigations before working for Eastman Chemical Company for many years. David strived hard in his work, gaining respect and admiration from his colleagues.
Beyond his career, David was a devoted family man. He shared 40 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife and mother of his children, Marjorie Ruth Rash Odom. Together, they raised two children, Bryan and Laura, who brought immense joy to their lives. David also took great pride in being a loving grandfather to his three grandchildren, Connor, Caitlyn, and Grayson.
David had a passion for golf, often spending his free time playing a round with his friends and colleagues. His kindness, patience, and unwavering support were cherished by all who knew him. He shot the best game of his life two and a half months prior to his death, and he scored a hole in one at the Johnson City Country Club golf course. He was also an avid supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and spent many years organizing fund raising golf tournaments in their honor.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Margie Rash Odom; a son, Bryan Keith Odom; and his second wife, Ann Hopkins Odom.
David is survived by his daughter, Laura Cooper (Jeffery); daughter-in-law, Jana Odom; grandchildren, Caitlyn Odom, Connor Cooper, and Grayson (Melanie) Odom; as well as his brother-in-law, James (Joan) Edward Rash.
A private celebration of David's life will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 10:00 am at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear."

Our friend David was a treasure as he was always a warm, friendly and gracious person.
His patience was remarkable ...which he displayed when trying to rebuild my game of golf.
I treasure the many times we spent talking life experiences and future hopes for each other and our families.
My wife Cathie and I especially will remember his visits to our home for dinner and conversation.
God Bless you David, you are gone but not forgotten.
