David Hamblin Obituary

JOHNSON CITY - Dr. David Warren Hamblin, 83, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

David was a resident of Johnson City. David spent most of his adult life in Ardmore, Oklahoma where he established his medical practice in Urology.

David was the son of the late Clarence and Jewell Hamblin. David was primarily raised in the Bartlesville, Oklahoma area calling "Hog Shooter Creek" his childhood home.

David attended High School in San Francisco, where he played baseball and ran track but ultimately graduated from Midwest City High School in 1957. David graduated from Central State College in 1969, and from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1972. David matriculated through surgical residency and his residency in Urology, becoming a Urologist in 1977. David began his medical practice in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1977. David moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1984 and continued his medical practice there. David established the Urology Center of Southern Oklahoma and practiced urology there until he retired in 2006. David loved medicine and cared deeply for the patients he served. Many patients still speak fondly of the selfless care he provided and "wished he was still practicing."

David worked for The Cancer Center from 2008 until 2017 when he retired completely from medicine and moved to Johnson City, Tennessee.

David was a veteran of the United States Marines.

David and Sydney were married in 1964. This marriage produced three boys: Jeffrey, Eric, and Barry.

In 1985, David married the love of his life, Sherri Hamblin in Ardmore, Oklahoma. From this marriage, Amanda and Ashley became children to David and sisters to Jeff, Eric, and Barry.

David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sherri Hamblin; three sons, Jeffery Hamblin and his wife Laura of Durant, Oklahoma, Eric Hamblin and his wife Martha of Lantana, Texas, and Barry Hamblin of Edmond; two daughters, Amanda Turbes and her husband Perry of Six Mile, South Carolina, Ashley Osterman and her husband Jeff of Johnson City, Tennessee; sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Allen Hamblin of Palm Bay, Florida, and sister Marilyn Hamblin of Concordia, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

David believed the most important thing in life was family, evident by the strong family numbers and bonds he and Sherri developed and nurtured. David wanted family to be his legacy. David stated at his 80th birthday party, "We put together one hell of a family, and when we are together, we are invincible, and I want it to stay that way." David is truly a role model for everyone in the family.

David came from a poor farming background in Oklahoma and endured a difficult childhood. David credited education as the tool that led him to a successful, professional career. David believed strongly that education was the key to success and freedom.

David was the epitome of a strong work ethic. David could and would often work from sunrise to sunset completing whatever project he wanted to finish at his home, often leaving younger workers, including his sons, exhausted.

David loved his medical practice, patients, and employees. David loved medicine and often remarked he couldn't believe how lucky he was to be a physician. It was never a burden for him to go above and beyond for his patients. David would meet them at the hospital, office, or home to take care of them. David couldn't go anywhere without seeing a patient and taking the time to speak with them. He was an admirable man who had a significant impact on this world and will be greatly missed by many.
