David C. Daniels Sr., 82, passed away on Monday November 20, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
David was born to Tate and Peggy Daniels in Newland, NC on Nov 29, 1940. He graduated from Newland High School and earned a BA degree from Milligan College. He began his teaching and coaching career in Carter Co Schools and after one year he moved to the Johnson City School System where he taught science and coached for 29 years beginning at North Junior High and then later at Liberty Bell. David was a member of Elizabethton Golf Course for over 40 years.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Doris Estep Daniels. In 2022, he had the blessing of meeting Nellie Murphy. They were married in August of 2022, and had the joy of her love and companionship until his death.
David is survived by his three children, Cary and his wife Robin of Kingsport, Cissy and her husband Steve of Marietta, Ga, and Chris of Johnson City, TN; three grandchildren, Dr. Drew Daniels and His wife Alexis, Brittany, and Stephan Shields and two great grandchildren, Caroline, and Luke Daniels. David will be dearly missed by all.

I remember him as an itinerant physical education teacher from South Side Elementary School back in the 60s. Tall and stern-faced, he took the boys while jolly Mrs. Lunceford took the girls.

As a fellow teacher, I knew David from Liberty Bell. He was a very congenial person. We talked cars and about driving in the snow. I also knew his wife Doris and I had the privilege of working with two of their children in Odyssey of the Mind (creative problem solving).
My heart goes out to you in this difficult time. May God bless and keep you and give you strength in this difficult time.
