Cynthia Hayes Obituary

HAYES, Cynthia Mae – of Montrose, age 88, died peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Taylor Lodge in Clio. Funeral services will be held at 4PM Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Celebrant John Montney officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12PM until the time of service at 4PM. Cremation will follow. Inurment will be held in Montrose Township Cemetery at a later date.

Cynthia was born on February 23, 1937, to the late Byron and Odessa (Dodge) McNiel. She graduated from Montrose High School and resided in Montrose most of her life. On February 26, 1955, Cynthia married James T. Hayes in Angola, Indiana. They enjoyed many wonderful years together before his passing on July 23, 2015. Cynthia enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and found great joy in baking for those she loved. She also loved going out to dinner with family & friends, and riding motorcycles with her husband, James. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are: Daughters: Marlo Hayes, and Robin Hayes; Grandchildren: Tyler (Erin) Hayes, and Alyssa (Kyle) Alexsandrowski; Twin great grandchildren: Jill and Dean Hayes; Brothers: Ron (Penny) McNiel, and Don (Lana) McNiel. Cynthia was also preceded in death by: Daughter, Lorrie Schmidt in 2021; Brothers: Byron McNiel, Chet McNiel, and Melvin McNiel; Sister, Jeanette Nathan; Brother-in-law, Mike Nathan.
