Coralie Greer Obituary

Coralie Hartman Greer

June 30, 1935 -

February 1, 2026

JOHNSON CITY - Coralie Hartman Greer, 90, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026. Born on June 30, 1935, in the community of Harmony in Washington County, Tennessee, she was a devoted wife and mother.

Coralie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Herbert Greer; her son, Bryan Todd Greer; and her daughter-in-law, Jina Greer. She is survived by her siblings, Edna Bacon and Ray Hartman; her daughter, Carolyn (Sean) Wylie; her son, Jerold (Tracy) Greer; her grandchildren, Branson Greer, Grayson Greer, and Justin Powell; and her great-grandchildren, Christopher, Scarlett, and Violet Greer; and many nephews and nieces.

Coralie was a member of Valley View Church early in life. She graduated from Sulphur Springs School in 1953 and moved to Johnson City in 1955 to work as a telephone operator for United Telephone Company. This role allowed her and her siblings to support their parents while embracing independence and embarking on adventures, including a memorable trip with a friend to pre-revolutionary Havana, Cuba.

It was in Johnson City that she met her future husband, Herbert, when he offered her a ride as she walked to work. They shared nearly 60 years together, building a life rooted in family and faith. Mom and Dad were members of Downtown Christian Church, and eventually First Christian Church, and founding members of their Sunday School group, Win-a-Kuple. Even though it's been many years since she was able to regularly attend, her class would always send cards and flowers to let her know she was never forgotten. An avid sports enthusiast, she played basketball throughout her school years and on church and community teams. She loved her time playing tennis with her nephew, Jim Odham. In Jim's tribute, he said, "She was always fun to be around and had a signature smile that was always welcoming and pleasant." Mom is also undefeated in our family rummy games.

Above all, she was a loving and dedicated wife and mother who gave her all to her family.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Bobbie Douglass, who began as a caregiver following mom's illness in 2019 but became her best friend and a cherished member of our family. Bobbie was instrumental in fulfilling mom's wish to live independently in her home until her final moments.

Coralie will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her resilience and unwavering love. Out of respect for the health of her siblings, services will be private for the Hartman family, her church family, and her close friends. Coralie's family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, with an informal funeral immediately following.
