JOHNSON CITY - Clarence Clay age 85, Johnson City passed away Friday, August 9, 2024 at Greystone Healthcare in Blountville following a prolonged illness. He was a native of Piney Flats and was a son of the late Willard and Elizabeth Betty Clay. He was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired from the V.A. Hospital where he had worked for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Carrier and two brothers, Buck Clay and Ray Clay and his wife, Mary.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Brenda Johnson Clay; two sons, Cornell Clay and Brian Clay and his wife, Tausha of Johnson City; brother, Ronnie Clay and dear friend, J.R. Babb; a sister, Betty Ann; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; also, several nieces and nephews.
Services with Military Honors for Clarence will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, August 16, 2024 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City then proceed to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
