PINEY FLATS - Charlotte Harkleroad, 86, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late William "Bill" and Cleo Morris Dalton.
Charlotte was a lifelong resident of Piney Flats and a 1955 graduate of Mary Hughes High School. She was an Educator in the Sullivan County School System for 36 years. She served as the secretary for the Mary Hughes Alumni Association for 14 years and she was an active member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Among her many accomplishments, Charlotte was a lifelong member of the Piney Flats United Methodist Church, where she served the Lord as a musician for 60 years. She was the president of her Sunday School class and an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was a 16-year member of the Bluff City Chapter #414 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as the organist. She also volunteered as a patient advocate at the Johnson City Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit.
Charlotte had many tangible achievements, but her most rewarding were the encounters with the many lives she touched.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by, her loving husband of 43 years, Herman "Toad" Harkleroad.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include: her daughter, Christa (Richard) McDavid; grandson, Dalton Justice; Granddaughter, Callee (Shawn) Phillips; two great-grandsons, Mavrik and Walker Newman; sister-in-law, Mary "Matt" O'Neal; brother-in-law, Sidney Harkleroad, Beryl (Mary Sue) Lyons; uncle, Clifford Vandeventer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation for family and friends is scheduled from 2:00 pm till 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in the Dogwood Chapel at Morris-Baker Funeral Home.
The funeral and Eastern Star services will be held at 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024, immediately following the visitation. Dr. Paul Humphrey, Pastor Dennis Milhorn, and the Bluff City Chapter #414 Order of the Eastern Star will be officiating the service.
The committal service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Sunrise Cemetery in Bluff City, Tennessee. Those wishing to attend are asked to gather at the cemetery no later than 1:45 pm.
The eight pallbearers will include: Richard McDavid, Dalton Justice, Shawn Phillips, Jeff Dotson, Carmen Vandevender, Dell Gates, Fred Minor, and Jim Liggett.
The family would like to extend a very special "thank you" to: Dr. Ezra Adams, Dr. Nik (Nikoloz Koshkelashvili), Dr. Lara Kfoury, Dr. Muhamad Malik, Dr. Rachel Monderer, Hospice Nurse Amanda Felty, Nurses Caleb, Seth, Keisha, Stella, Tara, Lexi, Toni, Heavenly, Emily, and CNA Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Piney Flats United Methodist Church, 225 Methodist Church Street Piney Flats, Tennessee 37686.

Christa , am so sorry about your mom. I didn´t know until today. I wish I had known. She was my friend and I will miss her as I´m sure you do.
