Charlotte Lorenna Cress

June 13, 2025

MOUNTAIN CITY - Charlotte Lorenna Cress, age 89 of Mountain City, TN, went home to her heavenly Father Friday morning, June 13th, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family. Charlotte was born September 14, 1935 to the late Kelly A. Mink and Beulah Arnold Mink of Neva TN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Sgt. Major Jack C. Cress, her brother, Roy Mink, and a great-grandson, Shawn Wills.

Charlotte was a member of Vaught's Gap Baptist Church where she was the church pianist for over 30 years. She also played the piano for Bible Baptist Church in Radcliff Kentucky from 1969-1971. Charlotte was a very kind and generous woman; the life she lived was a testament of her faith.

Charlotte traveled with her husband and three daughters as he was stationed in various locations throughout the United States including Hawaii, Germany, and Okinawa, Japan.

Charlotte was a licensed Beautician. She loved to cook, quilt, crochet and paint. She assisted her husband in his tax business for several years as a tax preparer.

The past few years she enjoyed sitting in her sunroom watching the deer and animals, reading her Bible, and working crossword puzzles. Charlotte was an avid reader, and enjoyed sharing and trading books with her granddaughter Leslie.

Charlotte is survived by her daughters Katherine Lowman (Robert) of Richmond, VA, Pamella Johnson (Rex) of Elizabethton, TN and Perriann Stanley (Jerry) of Mountain City, TN; 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and Charlotte's first great-great grandchild is on the way; Brothers-in-Law, Jim Cress(Dorothy) Richmond VA, Sam Cress (Ann), and one sister-in-law Margaret Cress, all of Mountain City, TN.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Mountain City Funeral Home (Mountain City, TN) with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm with Bro. Noah Broughton from Somerset, KY officiating. Bro. Broughton was Charlotte's pastor at Fort Knox, KY in 1968 and he has remained a longtime family friend. The burial will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 20, 2025 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN, alongside her husband.

Music will be provided by Charlotte's granddaughters, Amy Mina of Richmond Va. and Bridgette Fletcher, accompanied by Nathan Saylor of Elizabethton, TN.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Forrester, Ari Halberg, Eric James, Jared Lowman, Garrett Johnson, and Jacob Halberg.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Lowman, Bill Mink, Tony Fowler, and Marshall Young.

The family would like to thank the following for the excellent care and support Charlotte received: staff of the 4th floor Stroke Center at Johnson City Medical Center, Amedisys Hospice who were so kind, especially Laura, Gail, Rosie, Denise, Lori, Matt and Doug, Ballad Health Physical Therapist and special friend Marshall Young. A special thank you to friend Brenda Townsend for always checking on our family.

I remember Charlotte always a smile and a kind word. She loved her family . Charlotte will be missed by all that knew her. Always ready when help when needed. She was there when my mother died.
