Catherine Buchert

August 19, 1944 - June 8, 2024

Santa Maria- Catherine Ann Buchert, affectionately known as "Squeaky " by all who crossed her path, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024, at the age of 79, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Santa Maria on August 19, 1944, while her father was serving in the war, Catherine attended grammar school at the Air Base School at Santa Maria Army Air Field. She later graduated from Santa Maria High School in the Class of 1962. In November 1965, she married James Buchert, and together they welcomed their son, Michael, in 1971.

Catherine's pursuit of education led her to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1981. Her dedication and hard work paid off when she became a Certified Public Accountant in 1983, eventually rising to become a partner at the firm of Lapp Fatch Myers & Gallagher.

Beyond her professional achievements, Catherine was deeply involved in her community. She actively participated in local organizations, including the Kiwanis and the Elks Club. However, her proudest accomplishment was co-founding the Community Bank of Santa Maria, where she served on the Board of Directors until her final days.

During the late 1970s, Catherine and her husband built a cherished cabin at Nacimiento Lake. There, she reveled in water skiing and hosted countless dinners for friends. Her creative spirit also found expression in cross-stitch artistry, and she was an avid reader and Bridge player.

Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Buchert, and her brother, Jon Medina (Renodia). She leaves behind her son, Michael Buchert (Evadna), and her cherished grandson, James Buchert.
