JOHNSON CITY - Carl Brian Smith, "Brian", 73, of Johnson City, TN, entered into God's kingdom on June 15, 2023. He was born on July 31, 1949, to Mary Ruth Cross and J.C. Smith. Brian grew up in Wildwood, Georgia at the foot of Lookout Mountain in Dade County.
Brian was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his father, J.C. Smith; mother, Mary Ruth (Cross) Hoosier; and stepfather, Jerry Hoosier. He is survived by his daughter, Anna Mancuso; son-in-law, Joshua Mancuso; his three granddaughters, Amilia (14); Ella (12); and Sofia (7) Mancuso; and his sister, Marianne Hoosier.
Brian attended Dade County High School, and then pursued his college education, graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition from Auburn University in 1972. Brian met and married Donna Stiltner in 1982, and they had one child, Anna, in 1985. He had various careers throughout his life, including a horticulturist in a plant nursery for several years; a salesman for United Cities Gas Co.; and a career at Nuclear Fuel Services in Erwin, TN, prior to retiring in 2006. Brian was a devoted and supportive father, and he took great delight in being a "Pappy" to his granddaughters. In his last years of life, he enjoyed being outdoors in nature and spending time with his granddaughters. Brian was a faithful believer in the Bible, and he loved the Lord. His favorite scripture was Isaiah 40:31 "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint." As per Brian's request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that memories of Brian be shared on the Ryan Funeral Home website at https://www.ryanfuneralhome.net/obituaries/ Brian had a love for nature and God's creation, and as a tribute to his memory, one may have a memorial tree planted in his honor by visiting www.alivingtribute.org.
