Carl Lewis Obituary

JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Carl M. Lewis, age 95, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Claude Carlton Lewis and Frances Mae Sparks Lewis Jarrett.

He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church. Carl loved his Lord Jesus, his family, and his church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Slemp Lewis, his second wife, Martha Lou Lewis, a brother, William "Dusty" Lewis, and a half-brother, Garnett "Bud" John Jarrett, and sister, Thelma Bess Holt, and half-sister, Edna Crumley.

His father died when he was young, and from a young age Carl went to work to support his family. He proudly served his country in World War II in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Hancock Aircraft Carrier.

Throughout his lifetime, Carl owned and operated several businesses including service stations, repair shops, and car washes. He loved his family, enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends-especially mornings with the McDonald's gang, Thursday mornings with the seniors from church at Bob Evans, and his Homebuilders Sunday School Class taught by Larry Shropshire.

He was a member of the Sinking Creek Lodge #575 F&AM in Gray.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Jane Culp and husband John, Mike "Tater" Lewis and wife Karen, Steve "Spud" Lewis and wife Julie; grandchildren, Jennifer Mitchell and husband Justin, Joseph Culp and wife Hannah, Alison Moser and husband Patrick, Heather Shropshire and husband Blake and Alex Lewis and wife Sophia; great-grandchildren, Sophia Shropshire, John Shropshire, Will Shropshire and Rowan Lee Culp; brother-in-law, Tom Crumley; sister-in-law, Sarah Edwards and husband Garry; beloved step-brothers, and many nephews and nieces.

He cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Always ready to tell a joke or story. Carl loved life here, and now he is loving life in his eternal home with Jesus.

Celebration of Life service will be conducted 6:00 PM, Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Boones Creek Christian Church with Minister David Clark and Minister Ben Cole officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

A precious person, who's light shined to all those he came in contact with. We will miss him dearly, but know he's sitting at the feet of Jesus, where we all long to be. Prayers for the family he loved so much. Love in Christ, John & Karen Hunt
