Carl was such a great man. Very much loved and respected. My greatest memory was at Watauga Lake with a group of couples from the Carter County Rescue Squad. Several of us were attempting to water ski for the first time. I think I was pulled all over the lake, but having no luck getting up. Carl said, "forget everything you have been told. When you feel the pull of the rope, get up out of the chair' It worked! I got up. Only one problem, he never told me how to stop. I finally let go of the rope and went down. Exhausted but excited because I finally was able to water ski. Carl was the only one I ever saw water ski from the bank, and return to the bank without getting in the water. Rest in peace my dear friend.
