C.J. Campbell Obituary

JOHNSON CITY - Charles Justice "C.J." Campbell, 77, Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.

C.J. was a native of Johnson City and had previously lived in both Elizabethton and Johnson City. He was a son of the late Ernest Ray and Hallie Elizabeth Land Campbell.

C.J. was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1963-64, then transferring to the U.S. Army Air Corp where he was a Paratrooper until his discharge in 1969.

He worked most of his life as a carpenter, primarily installing carpet, and he was also a truck driver, but mostly a "jack of all trades".

C.J. was a hard-core man with a Heart of Gold, that would help anyone at any time, day, or night.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Cathy Campbell, a grandson, Zachary Campbell, and a step-grandson, Charles Presnell, Jr.

C.J. is survived by two daughters, Teresa Parlier (Mitchell), and Kim Campbell (Elonza), all of Elizabethton; one step-son, Terry Freeman (Debbie), Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Samantha England (Robby), Brandon Davis, and Hunter Rasnick, all of Elizabethton; one step-grandson, Josh Presnell, Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Natti England, both of Elizabethton; seven siblings, Judy Davis (Jere), Piney Flats, Karen Mottern (Mod), Telford, Ricky Campbell (Cindy), Elizabethton, Terry Campbell, Sissy Moody, Donnie Campbell, all of Johnson City, and Donna Thomas (Alan), Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews.

The memorial service celebrating C.J.'s life will be conducted Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 7:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Fowler, officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6:00-7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home, and other times at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Mitchell Parlier.

The graveside committal service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 3:00 P.M., in the Historic Section of Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those planning to attend are to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 P.M.
