JOHNSON CITY - Brenda Joyce Hammett Oxendine, 80, Johnson City, died Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Brenda was a native of Johnson City and the daughter of the late Alonzo Homer and Dorothy Mildred Ogle Hammett.
She worked many years in Healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Brenda was an active member of East Unaka Christian Church and was an avid reader.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winston E. Oxendine, Sr., in 2014, and her brothers, Richard and Ronald Hammett.
Brenda is survived by her sons, Winston E. Oxendine, Jr., and wife Julia, John C. Oxendine and wife Michele; four grandchildren, Gabe Oxendine and wife Lindsey, Lukas Oxendine and wife Donna, Logan and Madison Oxendine; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Monday, October 2, 2023, at 6:30 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Winston E. Oxendine, Jr., Minister, officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday prior to the service from 5:00 - 6:30 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside committal service will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 A.M. in the Historic Site of Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those planning to attend are to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M. Tuesday.
The family requests memorial donations in Brenda's name be made to Wounded Warrior Project by mail at woundedwarriorproject.org, or by phone at 855-448-3997.
