ELIZABETHTON - Billy S. West Jr., 75 of Elizabethton passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Billy S. West Sr. and Helen Phillips West. He was of the Baptist faith and a follower of Jesus Christ. Billy and Steve, his brother, were both baptized together at Sinking Creek Baptist Church in their early teenage years. Billy had a passion for football and NASCAR. Billy was an over the road truck driver for many years, then retired from Summers-Taylor after several years driving for them. He was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Paternal grandparents Jett And Maggie West; his brother, Steve West also bonus brothers Danny and Jamie West; bonus daughter, Kim Dutton: maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips and a special aunt and uncle, Margaret and Jay Banks.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judy Byers West; his children, Laura West of Elizabethton, Michael West of Elizabethton, Jacob West U.S. Army, Ft. Carson, Colorado and Derek West and his wife, Leanna of Granite Falls, NC; special niece Mareya West; two bonus sisters, Cindy Crawford and Jo West; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins.
Funeral services for Billy will be conducted at 12:30 PM Thursday, October 30, 2025 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Berthanna Oxendine with the eulogy and Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff, officiating. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael West, Derek West, Jacob West, Austin West, Wendell Banks and Clifford Roman. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow workers at Summers-Taylor.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Appalachian Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made in Billy's name to DAV-Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301.
