Billie Franklin Williams

ERWIN - Billie Franklin Williams, "Bill" passed away at Christian Care Center of Unicoi in Erwin, TN on December 21, 2024, just days after his 99th birthday. Born on December 17, 1925, in Cuba, Illinois; he was the son of William Walter Williams and Milissa Margaret Britt Williams.

Bill volunteered for the United States Marine Corp when he was 17 years old, where he was a member of the highly decorated 2nd Marine division. He went from island to island during World War II taking him from Imperial Japan; he participated in direct combat during the battle of Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa.

In September 1988, he retired from the position of Director of Risk Management at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital (after 18 years of service). He was an avid reader and enjoyed novels, and especially anything on World War II and Civil War history. He also enjoyed golf and smoking a good cigar or pipe. Bill appreciated all types of animals, and especially loved dogs and cats. He leaves behind his beloved white Westie, Lola, who he called his "baby dog".

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; Robert Walter Williams, James A. Williams, Lloyd Williams, two infant brothers, three infant sisters; and his special friend, Alice Duncan Painter. He is survived by his long-time friends who he considered family, his honorary son and daughter, Roger and Joyce Painter of Piney Flats, TN. He is also survived by many caring friends; with a special thank you to the staff of the Christian Care Center of Unicoi, and Administrator, Chuck Arnold.

Bill was an anatomical donor to the Quillen College of Medicine at E.T.S.U. There will be no funeral service at this time; his remains will be interred at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN.
