November 27, 2024

Betty Charlene Taylor Price, born in Jonesborough, TN on March 22, 1933, passed away at the age of 91 on November 27, 2024. Betty lived a full life, marked by her quiet presence and the subtle yet significant impact she had on those around her.

She was the first child born to Anna Mae Vaughn and William Dewey Taylor. Betty was raised by her grandmother Sarah Elizabeth (Leach) Taylor, known as Bettie, until her passing in 1948. Betty then lived with her Aunt Jesse and Uncle Lee through her final school years at Science Hill, University High, then ETSU.

Betty was married to Carroll Price of Piney Flats for 57 years, before his passing in 2009. She was a charter member of Cherokee Church of Christ in Johnson City, where she taught the middle-school class for 40 years. She was the supportive wife of her husband Carroll, one of the original Elders, and was a productive member until her last few years. Her life revolved around her faith, her family, and her work at Cherokee Elementary School where she flourished for 38 years. She will be remembered by many friends and students who passed those halls.

She leaves behind a family she loved dearly, two sons Steve (Teresa) Price of Georgia, and Bob (Kay) Price of Missouri, grandchildren Rachelle Allen, Hannah (Dan) DiPrima, Kortney (Jonathan) Harris, Taylor Price Proctor (Nick), and Landon (Sara Beth) Price. Her great grandchildren are Talon DiPrima, Kincaid, Brantley and Ryland Allen, Emerson Jean and Everhett Price, and Cassidy Proctor.

Betty was preceded in death by eight younger siblings Raymond, Rosalee (Bootsie), Barbara Jean, Peggy, Donald, Nancy Sue,Terry, and Danny, (Samuel, Michael, and Jeffrey are surviving).

Betty, Peggy, Terry and their spouses completed the raising of the five youngest siblings. Sue's children, Polly and Joe, know Betty as "Memaw". Betty was blessed to have many beloved nephews and nieces, several of which proceeded her in death.

Betty was such a sweet lady. I worked with her in the JC School System. She loved children so much.
