Betty Gouge Obituary

Betty Jane Saylor Gouge February 23, 1932 - August 24, 2024

Betty Jane Saylor Gouge, 92, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 23, 1932 in Piney Flats, TN, to the late George & Amy Saylor. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering faith touched the lives of all who knew her.

A woman of deep faith, Betty was a longtime member of her church- First United Methodist, where she spent many years as the church secretary and volunteering in various capacities. She believed in the power of prayer and lived her life as a testament to her beliefs.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Earl, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Together, they raised a beautiful family and built a life centered on love, community, and faith. Betty was a devoted mother to her four children, Jerry (Misty) Gouge, Kim (Joe) Minutolo, and Andy (Beth) Gouge. A proud grandmother of five, Anthony, Jonathan, Matthew, Lauren, and Hannah and a loving great-grandmother to several great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished her deeply.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son Kevin Gouge, sister Sara Torbett and brother Wayne Saylor.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Appalachian Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:30am-12:30pm with the funeral service to follow at 12:30 pm. Pastor Betty Furches and Reverend Jodie Ihfe will officiate, with special music being provided by Billy Walker. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

Betty will be remembered for her kindness, her steadfast love for her family, and her unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

The family would like to thank all the girls at American House, Johnson City for the love and care they provided to our mother.
