JOHNSON CITY - Betty Taylor Barnett, 89, Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton, following a brief illness.

Betty was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County. She was the daughter of the late Roy Taylor, who passed away when she was an infant, her mother, Lucy Oliver Taylor Richardson, and her stepfather, Theodore Roosevelt Richardson, who helped raise her from a child.

Betty was a 1954 graduate of Happy Valley High School.

She was a homemaker, and attended College Park Free Will Baptist Church, where she was the piano player, and most recently, Sinking Creek Baptist Church.

Betty enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and loved to can vegetables she grew. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, and loved when her family, friends and neighbors came to visit her.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Everett "Junior" Barnett in 2008, and a son-in-law, Wayne Hale.

She is survived by three children, Kathy Barnett and husband Cleave, Karen Hale, Keith L. Barnett and wife Kelley, all of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Valda Barnett, Jonesborough, Vivian Barnett, Johnson City, Angela Barnett and husband Steve, Mountain City, Lauren Hooker and husband Chase, Bristol, Ethan Barnett and wife Chloe, Gray; four great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Landon, Isaiah and Cohen.

The funeral service for Betty will be conducted Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 1:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Pastor Chuck Babb, officiating. Special music will be provided by Larry Taylor.

The family will receive friends Tuesday prior to the service from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the Funeral Home.

Graveside committal service will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ethan Barnett, Jeff Birchfield, Chad Garland, Lynn Richardson, Wayne Richardson, and Bob Sluder. Those planning to attend are to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M.
