CHURCH HILL - Ann Cox Baker, age 92, of Church Hill, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Ralph Cox and Pauline Young Cox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Paul Baker; granddaughter, Gabby Lewis; and brother, Thomas Cox.
Ann grew up in Johnson City, TN and was a 1949 graduate of Science Hill High School. While she had not lived in Johnson City for many years, she always considered it home. Growing up her family enjoyed attending Johnson City Cardinals baseball games. She also spoke of her days living on the Tree Streets, running Zimmerman's Newsstand near the railroad depot, as well as working at the Johnson City Press. She was quite the local historian and quick to share pictures and stories of what life was like growing up in the Johnson City area.
Ann had a very strong Christian faith, and attended church regularly throughout her life until her health would no longer permit it. She enjoyed the smiles brought to life by Disney, and a lifetime highlight was a trip with her daughters and grandchildren to Disney World in 2008. She loved early cinema and especially loved watching Alfred Hitchcock productions featuring Jimmy Stewart. Her favorite movie of all time was It's a Wonderful Life.
She is survived by daughters, Carol Cheatham of Louisville, KY; and Becky Lewis and husband, Shane of Johnson City; grandchildren, Mackenzie Cheatham, Tucker Lewis, and Ashleigh Lewis.
The family of Ann wishes to extend their sincere thanks to David Cheatham who provided care and support during recent years to Ann and Paul; John Eaton and Ballou Barrett, therapists with Amedysis Home Health of Rogersville; and very special caregivers Lisa McNeely, Brittany Ford, and Kayla McNeely for their love and support.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, February 19, 2024 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with officiating. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 10:00 am in Monte Vista Burial Park. Anyone wishing to attend the graveside service is asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:45 am.
