Cindy & Bill,
May God be especially near and dear to each of you at this time. We have fond memories of entertaining your parents in our home (and vice versa) many times, playing games, and attending numerous church functions. The outstanding episode was while attending the Tigers' game in Detroit about 1985, soon after we moved to this area: I had gone into the restroom and suddenly a hand came under the partition grabbing my ankle. Nell was so pleased with herself as she was convinced she had really scared me. Unbeknownst to her I had taught in inner city Flint for 20 years which had prepared me for such :-) Surprised but not scared. She was a jokester!

Dear Cindy, Bill and family,
My condolences and prayers go out to you for the loss of your mom. She was a wonderful person and will be missed greatly . The last words I can remember her saying to me were, "You should move to Jackson". It would´ve been great to be back as family, but unfortunately career has taken me down a path that didn´t lead back to Jackson. Our lives were so separate as we lived them out, but so close when together. I have great memories of staying at your house, both with my whole family and when it was just me. You had such loving and caring parents. I still have memories of sitting at the kitchen table playing games or just talking to your mom about life in general. There were barbecues in the backyard, watching the garden grow and eating watermelon (something I rarely got to have). I remember one Christmas break one evening the whole family and me packed in the car coming home from an evening of ice-skating, and it began to snow. The heavy snowflakes floating through the air, reflecting the light from the headlights of the car and then just bouncing off the windshield inches in front of our faces were just an amazing sight to see. Enthralling moment for all in the car especially me who rarely saw snow and I probably should say maybe not as much excitement for your dad who was doing the driving. It was truly a family moment for me. All these great times together as family made your mom a "mom away from mom" to me. She was such a loving and caring person with wide open arms. And so genuine. She will be missed, but one day, and I am sure it won´t be Jackson, we´ll all be together again.

Nell was so sweet and kind to me during the years I attended both the 1st Church of the Nazarene and later the Jackson Free Methodist Church. She always made me smile and laugh. If I have this straight, I remember her working in the nursery at the Nazarene Church. Her remark one time when I picked my daughter up was that she had never seen such a tiny butt. I may not have this right either but if she wrote a book about her childhood, I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it! I also remember teaching junior high girls at the same time her husband taught the junior high boys. We both had very different ideas of how to challenge the young ones to learn Bible verses. I am blessed to have had her in my life and I will miss her very much.

Cindy and Family, I visited your mom about 3 weeks ago at the rehab center. She talked about just wanting to go home (Heaven). She was a wonderful lady and now she is completely whole. Many thoughts and prayers.

My best childhood memories were at the house with mom and dad. Such a loving home and then getting to live right next door to mom in the last few years was the best. She will be forever missed. I will especially miss her laugh.
