William "Bill" Fred Schulz, 84, of Benton Harbor passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Caretel Inns of St. Joseph. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph.
Bill was born in St. Joseph on April 29, 1941, to the late William and Olga (Fredrick) Schulz.
Bill was a kind, quiet, giving man. He was also a craftsman. Bill rebuilt cars and trucks which were lifted high with a lift kit. He made beautiful wood furniture with precision for family and friends.
Bill joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Benton Harbor High School in 1959. He trained at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and became part of the 23rd U.S. Army Missile Detachment in the Netherlands.
Upon his return, he met the love of his life Dara Schulz at a party and they were married on Nov. 19, 1966. They were married for 59 wonderful years and had two children.
Bill is survived by his wife Dara; two children: David (Nicole) Schulz of Canton, Mich., and Cynthia (Chad) Gammon of Bridgman and a sister, Susan Schulz of Berrien Springs.
He is preceded in death by sisters: Betty, Margie and Nancy and a brother, Ronald.
Visitation with the family will be from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel. A celebration of life service follows at 4 p.m. also at the funeral home, with Pastor Paul Jenkins officiating.
