The family will receive guests from 1 p.m. until time of celebration of life service at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, with Pastor Mike Schoeplein officiating. Born in Ionia, Mich., to William and Helen (Dague) Dockham, Steven dedicated a portion of his life to serving his country in the Air Force – an experience that shaped his character and steady nature. On Oct. 30, 2019, he found renewed happiness when he wed his wife, Linda, with whom he shared his recent years.
Steven was most at home on the golf course or at the bowling alley, truly coming alive during a good game. Whether he was walking the fairway, lining up a strike, or sitting at the head of the table for a long night of cards, he was in his element. He was a fixture at the table and a formidable opponent in Euchre, Bridge and Pinochle – games that served as the backdrop for countless laughs and family memories.
To his sons, Steven Jr., Scott and Shawn, and his stepdaughter, Meghan (Gebby), he was a constant presence who was always there when he was needed most. To his siblings, John, Collin and Karen, he was a lifelong friend. Perhaps his greatest joy, however, was watching his family grow. With 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Steven's influence spans generations; the family looks forward to honoring his memory as they prepare to welcome his newest great-grandchild this March.
Steven was preceded in death by his mother, Helen, and his beloved dad, Howard; his brother, Marshall; and his biological father, William.
