Offie Smith Obituary

Offie Dessie Smith, 94, of Hartford passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026, at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph.

Offie was born March 4, 1931, in Chicago, the daughter of Fred and Madgeree (Sutton) Ridgway, both of whom preceded her in passing. Also preceding her in passing were her husband, William on Jan. 22, 2019; and five siblings: Zenna Sims, Vashti Turner, Ira Brenwall, Oscar Ridgway and Fred Ridgway.

Offie enjoyed crocheting, puzzles, word-search puzzles and going to church with her late husband. Her most precious times were spent with her family, who will miss her dearly.

Offie is survived by four children: Janet Ganus, William Smith, Melody (Terry) Manning and Mary Smith; nine grandchildren: Brad (Sarah) Manning, Amber (Adam) French, Kim Ganus, Sandy (Bruce) Arend, Lenny (Roxanne) Callahan, Melissa (Brad) Rodgers, Lee Smith, Billy (Melissa) Smith, Amanda Clark and James Smith; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

The family will welcome friends from 2-3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford, where the service to honor her memory will take place at 3 p.m. with the Rev.
