Dennis Hanson Obituary

Dennis Edwin Hanson passed away On July 2nd at Swedish Hospital. He had been receiving medical treatment for 7 weeks. On the day he was scheduled to be released to a facility to convalesce, he could no longer fight his illnesses and passed away. He had battled several other life-threatening health issues over the last decade, but was always a survivor.

Dennis was born in Waldo General Hospital in Seattle, WA and was the youngest son of Oliver J. and Zona Hanson. He grew up in Seattle, his first 8 years in Ballard, followed by the Broadview/Bitter Lake neighborhood. He graduated from Ingraham High School in 1975, and continued his education at Shoreline Community College and the University of Washington, which he left after a couple of years to continue his career at Safeway stores. He started out bagging groceries and worked his way up to produce manager. Dennis liked his work and enjoyed assisting and having conversations with customers and other employees. He was a big sports fan following Husky and Seahawks football, the Mariners, Kraken and T-Birds, and the Storm. For several years Dennis enjoyed traveling to Arizona for golf and Mariner's spring training.

Dennis married Jean (Lourgin) Scanlon in 2014. They lived in the Greenwood neighborhood for several years and moved to Lynnwood six years ago.

Dennis is survived by his wife Jean, brother Jim and sister Judy, niece Erika, nephews Matt and Jeff and Jean's children, Robert, Laurie and Billy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Zona Hanson.

A family celebration of life will be held August 17th. Remembrances can be made to NW Kidney Centers or Homage Senior Services of Snohomish County in his honor.
