John Osborne Obituary

Tiverton|John P. Osborne, 92, of Tiverton, surrounded by family, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. He was the loving husband of Elaine A. (Levesque) Osborne. He lived a vigorous and purposeful life. A graduate of Boston University with a degree in Chemistry, John was an Air Force veteran, and in the service, he trained clinical laboratory assistants. Following his honorable discharge, he worked as a clinical chemist, and later as a laboratory manager at St. Anne's Hospital, Fall River.

Throughout his life, John enjoyed many varied interests that exemplified his active lifestyle. He was an avid boating enthusiast and sailor. He loved walking to the local beach, standing on the jetty, tracking the weather, watching boats on the Sakonnet, and chatting with neighbors.  In addition to maritime interests, John found much joy in classical music and especially opera. He was a dedicated and enthusiastic subscription ticket holder for the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Newport Classical Musical Festival. Additionally, John was an especially devoted sports enthusiast and fan.  He was an exceptional baseball player in his youth, and an accomplished competitive bowler in later years. One of his proudest moments was achieving a perfect bowling game. He was a huge fan of the New England Patriots, Tom Brady and the Boston Red Sox.  Also, he liked to travel with his wife, Elaine, and together they enjoyed cruises to Bermuda, and visits to California and to Hawaii.  He was especially fond of Block Island, and he really enjoyed taking the BI Ferry.  Additionally, he was a devout parishioner, first at St. Madeleine's Church (Tiverton) and in later years at St. Theresa's Church (Tiverton).

John's contributions extended beyond his family and professional commitments. He was a Tiverton little league baseball coach, member and past president of the Newport Power Squadron, and he volunteered as a religious education (CCD) instructor, a Eucharistic Minister, a lector, and an usher at St. Madeleine's Church.  These accomplishments reflected his broad community engagement.

John was a supportive presence not only in his professional life but also within his family, who will remember him as a loving husband, father, and grandpa. He was proud of his family, and he was a strong champion, advocate and influence on the lives of his children and grandchildren. He spent many of his retirement years providing childcare support for his grandchildren. His children and grandchildren gave him a sense of purpose and much joy throughout his life and in his later years.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Elaine of 62 years. He leaves his beloved children: Dr. Catherine DeCesare (husband Dr. Joseph DeCesare), John P. Osborne, Dr. Matthew Osborne, Elizabeth Osborne (husband Patrick Hart), Patrick Osborne (wife Barbara), Gregory Osborne, and Jennifer Emhoff (husband Dr. Timothy Emhoff). John also leaves behind a treasured legacy in his grandchildren, Catherine (Caite) DeCesare, Thomas DeCesare, Emily DeCesare, Caroline DeCesare, Mara DeCesare, John P. Osborne III, Alyce Osborne, Nathan Hart, Grace Hart, Meghan Bruton (husband James), Rachel Schramm (husband Zach), Darren Osborne, Lauren Osborne, Owen Mueller, and his great-grandchild Gabriella.   John was predeceased by his parents, Lester C. and Rita (Cutting) Osborne. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Sydney Smith of Philadelphia, New York.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main Street, Fall River.

His Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 AM in St. Theresa's Church, Stafford Rd. Tiverton. Burial will take place at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton.
