JIM COOK Obituary

James "Jim" Lester Cook was born on September 10, 1935 in Warren, Minnesota; the son of Leo Lester and Lillian Josephine (Ausk) Cook. Jim graduated from El Dorado High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country. On July 6, 1958, Jim was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginger" Ruth Watkins in El Dorado at the First United Methodist Church. Upon discharge from the Navy Jim and Kenny Smith started and co-owned C&S Well Service. Jim worked as an assemblyman for a couple manufacturing companies. Later in life, he worked for several years as a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike. Jim enjoyed fishing and boating, but above all he loved being a baseball/softball dad. He also enjoyed playing cards with their friends. Many people in El Dorado would recognize Jim as he was known for taking long walks all around town. Jim passed away on May 8, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Ginger; daughter, Lori (Joe) Eaton; son, Jimmy (Melanie) Cook; grandchildren, Shei Eaton, Connor and Makenna Cook, and sister, Ann (Walt) Schmidt. Preceding Jim in death are his parents Leo and Josephine Cook. Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, May 16 from 5-7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17 at 1PM at Carlson Colonial Chapel; burial will immediately follow at Walnut Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. Please sign his online guestbook at www.carlsonkirbymorris.com
