Josephine Robinson Obituary
Celebrate a life well lived. Rejoice for Sadie who is present with the Lord. For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an external body made for us by God himself and not by human heads.
After a fierce but courageous battle, our beloved Josephine Robinson won the war and went on to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 23, 2025. "Sadie", as she was affectionately known, was born July 9, 1941 in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina to the late Margaret Quattlebaum and the late Reverend Ervin Holmes, Jr.
Sadie was educated in the public schools of Lexington County, South Carolina, graduating from Twin City High School, Class of 1959. At an early age, she joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health began to decline. Sadie was a member of Electa Chapter Number 11, Order of Eastern Star serving in various positions over the years. She was also a member of Freewill Court Number 522, Heroines of Jericho.
Sadie retired from Wellington Synthetics, Inc. of Batesburg-Leesville. She worked Shealy's Bar-B-Que House and parttime at B-L Family Practice until 2024.
In addition to both of her parents, Sadie was preceded in death by two daughters, Joyce Evelyn Gortman and Tyra Lache Baldwin; two grandsons, Manzell Langford and Jamille Gortman; a brother, Leroy Meetze; cherished cousins, Mable Creed, Helen Tolen, Jessie Adams and Eddie Quattlebaum.
Those left to celebrate her life and cherish precious memories include: three loving sons, Eddie Frank (Monica) Gortman, James Elroy (Lydia) Gortman and William Everette Gortman; grandchildren, Crystal Gortman, Ollegra Langford, Justin Headen, Jessica Headen, Damian Gortman and Jonathan (Meghan) Gortman; three brothers, Ervin (Monique) Holmes, III, Zaccheaus (Sabrina) Holmes and Avis (Jeronica) Holmes; two sisters, Margaret Holmes and Leona Holmes; great-grandchildren, Camryn Butler, Cassidy Gary and Caylee Hill; a cherished cousin, Harden (Mary) Kelly; God-daughters, Larjonar Williams, Patrice Jones and Lachele Johnson and a host of other family and friends.
Sadie was a mother, sister, auntie and friend to so many that we cannot list them all. A few close friends to acknowledge include Pastor & First Lady Duncan, Deacon & Mrs. Charlie Coleman, Janice Summers, Linda B. Johnson and Doris Jones.
