Paki Wieland Obituary

Paki Patricia Ann Wieland

Conway, MA - Paki Wieland, née Patricia Ann Wilson, 82 years old, of Greenfield, MA, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at her daughter's home in Conway, MA.

Paki was born September 15, 1943, in New Orleans, the daughter of Barrett and Emily Wilson. She graduated from Dominican High School in 1961 in New Orleans and entered the Dominican Novitiate in 1962, where she studied theology and sociology. She received a Master's in Education from Antioch in 1979, a Master's of Social Work from Boston University in 1986, and a Doctor of Ministry from the University of Creation Spirituality in 1992.

Paki dedicated her life to serving her community as a social worker, family therapist, graduate school teacher, and activist. She was tirelessly devoted to the causes of peace, justice and community. Her beliefs inspired her to travel all over the world from Afghanistan to Venezuela and so many places in between. She truly modeled how to love thy neighbor.

Those who knew her remember her enthusiasm, generosity, humor, deep kindness, love for Scrabble, and appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. She loved the ocean and long walks.

Paki is survived by her daughter, Marcelle Morgan, son-in-law Timothy, two grandsons, William and James, and brother Barrett Wilson. She is also survived by countless friends and co-conspirators.

"So many of us flocked to Paki-for advice, for creative ideas, for strategic thinking, or simply for the privilege of being in her presence. She had a way of making people feel heard, valued, and inspired to keep going, even in the most difficult moments of activism." - Medea Benjamin, CODEPINK

"Paki was a great CODEPINKer, a model for us all. She traveled with delegations to Gaza, Iran, Pakistan, Cuba, Yemen, Afghanistan, and the U.S. border to witness the effects of U.S. imperialism, then returned home to pressure Congress to stop these policies. She remained a "good troublemaker" to her final days, with her last trial for disrupting the military industry concluding only a few days before she "walked on." Ret. Col. Ann Wright, Veterans for Peace & CODEPINK

"Paki was a tireless peacemaker; peace was in everything she did. She could move from fierce anger at what power was doing to innocent people into a delight filled agitator in seconds. She could process her rage and it came out as a 'disarming' invitation to be peace. She was it." Jodie Evans, CODEPINK

"Paki and I bonded after we learned that each of us had been arrested-multiple times-for civil disobedience. I often turned to her for advice and guidance-strategizing and working together on how to eliminate nuclear weapons, stand up to defense contractors, and fight back against those who seek war and destruction. Occasionally, we disagreed. But in our disagreement, there was genuine admiration. I saw in Paki someone who loved and cared so deeply, and whose passion and energy could ignite and inspire others to action." Congressman Jim McGovern

"Paki Wieland was a peace movement giant packed into a 5'3" frame. While we feel the loss of her twinkling eyes and warm low voice, which brought energy and light to the thousands of meetings, demonstrations, international delegations and other events she was part of, we are sure she is now making good trouble on another plane." Tarak Kauff & Ellen Davidson, Veterans for Peace

"In Paki's final weeks, a small 'team' of friends and family joined together to help with her care and transition. Part of that involved gatekeeping the long, long line of friends who came to pay tribute and express their gratitude and love. For her part, up to the day before she 'walked on', Paki welcomed everyone, rallied with recognition for each visitor, and for those of us caring for her, she exuded the love, concern and kindness that characterized her very being throughout her life. Her passing left a hole in our hearts, but her lessons and her legacy give us the courage to keep acting with Paki's spirit at our sides" Marcelle, Tim, Barbara, Janice, Karen, Cate and Crystal.

I remember well the day I met Paki when I worked at the Weldon in the office.
I called her Patricia and she smiled and said my friends call me Paki and you can do the same. She instantly had my respect.
She would stop by the office Every Friday, and would Simply say..."TGIF I hope your doing well its Friday and your weekend is almost here". she knew the toll that job took on the human mind, body and Spirit.
I always told her I looked forward to Friday, because I knew she would stop by.
Paki was a special spirit, always kind and that smile would just make you smile back. I remember the first time we had a political discussion, I was in aww of her pushing back, Her dedication and her travels to fight the good fight.
I remember when she told me she had been arrested a few times, I was shocked at first but I told her, it was kind of cool that she cared that much for human kind to be arrested. She laughted. She was sure a fire ball and I respected that about her. I'm really sad to read about her leaving the earthly plane, but I have no doubt she's surrounded by love and friends.
Rest peacefully Paki...
and know that you made a big difference here on earth.

Besides being with Paki at countless demonstrations , I was lucky to be a passenger in her car for several trips to Georgia to attend plowshares trials, and SOA weekends. She was always fun, and interested in others, but she never let me share the driving. I don't know how she did it. She had boundless energy.

Oh, Paki, so many of us will miss you, and will have so many reasons to think of your strength, wisdom, humor, dedication and kindness each time we stand out against the injustices yet to come. You will be by our side, for certain! So grateful to have had you in our lives...and that has not ended. So sorry you had to leave us, but know that our love and friendship has not fully ended. How fortunate we all are. Thank you, dear Paki.

Paki was many things, including a skilled tennis player, who always brought her A game, smiles and laughter. She was a gem who will be terribly missed.

Each time my sweet Mary's birthday rolled around yet again, Paki would unfailingly email me with memories and funny anecdotes about her. That's just how Paki was, even for me who really only knew her obliquely through Mary.

I first met "Paki" when she was "Pat", teaching in the psychology department at Antioch, New England in Keene. It was not a formal introduction involving words, but an instant flash of light; a nod of recogniation ,as I passed her in the hall on my way to teach my graduate Dance/Movement course. Over the years, our meetings were always unplanned treasures full of smiles and grace. On one of my visits to New Orleans Paki popped up spreading her birthright of deep soul and fierce playful magic. Thank you to all who helped ease her way home.
