Suzann Steagall Memoriam

Suzann Mary Steagall, of Matthews, North Carolina, passed away on May 20, 2025, at the age of 84. Suzann was born to Wendell Lawrence and Veronica Ondo Lawrence in Barberton, Ohio, on February 12, 1941, and was the first of five sisters and two brothers. Suzann was preceded in death by her spouse Richard, and sons Mark, Christopher, and Shawn. She is survived by her sisters and brothers, cousins, friends, daughters-in-law, granddaughters, Kelly, Ashleigh, Aspen, and Abigail, and great-great-granddaughter, Caroline.

Suzann was married to Richard for fifty-three years after meeting at a concert in Akron, Ohio. As a naval family with thirty years of service to the country, they retired in Virginia Beach. Suzann loved the naval jets flying overhead from Oceana Naval Base, Slovak food, the Beach Boys, and Johnny Mathias. Her love of children and compassionate nature made her an enlightened childcare provider. Her kids loved to bake Christmas cookies and other goodies while covered in sugar and flour in Ms. Sue's kitchen. She provided oversight at the neighborhood school bus stop and was the terror of any bullies there.

A mass will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Mint Hill, North Carolina, on May 17, 2026, at 9 a.m. Online streaming of the mass is available at the church website for those unable to attend the service. Those who would like to honor Suzann's life are asked to donate to the Hope Ministry at St. Luke's, where grief counselors and volunteers brought comfort and assistance to Suzann.
