Richard Edwards Obituary
June 27, 1942 - March 18, 2026
Lynchburg, Virginia - Richard Nathaniel "Rick" Edwards, Jr., age 83, transitioned to Glory, with God forever, on March 18, after a long, hard fought 6-year battle with metastatic melanoma. Rick was born June 27, 1942, in McComb, Mississippi to Katherine Elliot Edwards and Richard Nathaniel Edwards.
Rick attended elementary school in Charlotte, NC, graduated from Needham Broughton High School, Raleigh, N.C., in 1960, graduated N.C. State University with a degree in Nuclear Engineering, 1965. Rick was employed with Ebasco Services, NYC, and Framatome, USA, for 34 years.
Rick was involved in building 200+ habitat houses in Charlotte, NC, Montgomery County, Maryland, and Lynchburg, VA. The first house he worked on (when he was bitten by the Habitat "bug") was part of the Jimmy Carter Work Project Habitat Building Blitz, 1987, Charlotte, NC. He worked along with Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, Tom T. Hall, Bob Hope and hundreds of other volunteers to build 14 houses in one week. He started a work crew at Providence Baptist Church.
Rick is survived by his wife Linda Daniels Edwards, his children, Richard "Nathan" Nathaniel Edwards III, Sharon Eileen Edwards, step children, Tynlee Bailey, Scott Berry (deceased) and Kirk Berry (deceased). Grandchildren, Kaitlin Gaskey (Justin) Lauren Edwards, Hunter Bailey, Jake Bailey, Jesika Berry, Christian Berry, Camille Berry; great grandchildren Austin and Grayson, Nora and Heidi Gaskey; his brother Henry Edwards (Cheryl) and sister Catherine Edwards (deceased).
A Celebration of Life will be held, Monday, April 6, 11:00 am, Whitten Monelison Chapel, Madison Heights, VA, with a reception to follow at the Whitten facility.
Rick has established the "Rick Edwards' Educate Habitat Kids" scholarship fund with the Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity. In lieu of flowers, please consider a generous gift to this fund and carry on Rick's passion for Habitat by making a lasting difference in the life of a child!

Linda, so sorry to hear of Rick´s passing. I remember him from the years of the Rotary/Kiwanis relationship, and also from the great concert that I attended with you both. I will not be able to attend the service as I have moved to North Carolina to be closer to my daughter. Take care of yourself and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
